This unit was easy to hook up, once I found the web page that showed me how to pull off the trim and get to the back of the factory FM radio. It creates a small FM station in your car, and at installation time you choose which frequency -- 88.7 or 89.1. You plug your car antenna into the unit, and the unit is plugged into your FM radio. You install a small switch that will turn it on or off. When on, its FM signal will override anything you might otherwise receive on that frequency, so on a long trip, you can drive to a place that has a strong FM station on 89.1, for example, but it won't interfere with your iPod when this unit is switched on.
There's no distortion when your sound source volume is set correctly. It may not be quite as good as a direct connection to the FM's preamp, but most factory radios don't have those connectors on the back, and when you are driving, the road noise will not allow you to appreciate any minute difference. To my ears, the FMM100A's sound through the FM is clean, with no background noise.
Amazon offers a good price on these units. It's a way to get a good, reliable connection of the audio from your iPod or MP3 player to your car's FM radio.
